OUR CHILDREN’S BALLET PROGRAMS

MOMMY & ME | AGES 18 MONTHS–3 YEARS

Minnesota Ballet School’s Mommy & Me program offers a joyful first introduction to movement and ballet for young children together with a parent or caregiver.


Through music, creative movement, and age-appropriate activities, children develop coordination, balance, rhythm, body awareness, confidence, and social skills while becoming comfortable in a class environment.


The program creates a positive first experience with dance while giving children and their caregivers a special opportunity to move, learn, and have fun together.

Mommy & Me | Ages 18 Months–3 Years

A joyful first introduction to ballet for our youngest dancers and their caregivers. Through music, creative movement, and playful ballet-inspired activities, children develop coordination, balance, rhythm, musicality, and confidence in a warm and supportive environment.


In This Class, Children Will:

  • Explore movement through music and creative activities 
  • Develop coordination, balance, and body awareness 
  • Discover basic ballet concepts through play 
  • Build confidence and social skills 
  • Share a special introduction to dance with their caregiver 


The goal of Mommy & Me is to create a positive and enjoyable first experience with movement and ballet while building confidence and a love of dance.


Class Schedule

Class Length: 30 minutes, once a week
Saturday: 8:30–9:00 AM

PRE-BALLET PROGRAM | AGES 3–8

Minnesota Ballet School’s Pre-Ballet Program introduces young children to the joy of ballet through a nurturing, structured, and inspiring environment. The program builds a strong foundation for future classical ballet training while encouraging creativity, confidence, coordination, and a love for movement.


Through age-appropriate exercises, students develop musicality, rhythm, balance, flexibility, body awareness, and essential early ballet skills while learning focus and classroom discipline.


Students progress through levels based on age, readiness, and individual development.

Pre-Ballet 1 | Ages 3–4

Pre-Ballet 1 introduces young dancers to the fundamentals of ballet through age-appropriate movement in a fun, nurturing, and structured environment. Students begin developing coordination, balance, posture, body awareness, musicality, and confidence while learning basic ballet concepts and classroom skills.


In This Class, Students Will:

  • Explore basic ballet movements and positions 
  • Develop coordination, balance, posture, and body awareness 
  • Practice age-appropriate movements such as skipping, jumping, and galloping 
  • Develop rhythm, musicality, and movement patterns 
  • Build focus, confidence, and listening skills 
  • Develop creativity and a positive connection with ballet 


The goal of Pre-Ballet 1 is to create a joyful first ballet experience while building a strong foundation for continued classical ballet training.

Class Length: 45 minutes, once a week

Tuesday: 4:30–5:15 PM
Wednesday: 6:15–7:00 PM
Saturday: 9:00–9:45 AM

Pre-Ballet 1 | Ages 3–4

Pre-Ballet 2 builds upon early ballet foundations with more structured classical ballet training. Students develop greater coordination, posture, musicality, flexibility, body awareness, and control while learning fundamental ballet movements and preparing for progression into the next level of training.


In This Class, Students Will:

  • Develop fundamental ballet movements and positions 
  • Learn and practice basic ballet terminology 
  • Improve coordination of the arms, legs, and full-body movement 
  • Develop posture, balance, flexibility, and body awareness 
  • Strengthen musicality, rhythm, focus, and listening skills 
  • Build confidence, discipline, and positive classroom habits 


The goal of Pre-Ballet 2 is to establish a strong foundation for continued classical ballet training while encouraging artistry, confidence, and a love of ballet.


Class Schedule:

Class Length: 45 minutes, once a week

Pre-Ballet Advanced | Ages 5–8

Pre-Ballet Advanced is designed for young dancers ready for more structured and consistent ballet training. Meeting twice a week helps students strengthen technique, coordination, musicality, and confidence while making more consistent progress. Increased training also develops movement quality and prepares dancers for continued ballet training and performance opportunities.


In This Class, Students Will:

  • Strengthen fundamental ballet positions and movements 
  • Improve coordination, posture, balance, and flexibility 
  • Develop musicality, rhythm, and movement quality 
  • Practice introductory jumps and traveling steps 
  • Build focus, confidence, discipline, and performance skills 
  • Prepare for the next level of classical ballet training 


The goal of Pre-Ballet Advanced is to strengthen technical foundations, support consistent progress, and prepare dancers for the next level of ballet training and performance.


Class Schedule:

Class Length: 45 minutes, twice a week

Monday & Thursday: 4:30–5:15 PM

Pre-Competition Team | Ages 5–9

For young dancers interested in taking their first step into competitive dance. Pre-Competition Team members participate in weekly team training in addition to a required ballet class at Minnesota Ballet School.

YOUTH BALLET PROGRAM | AGES 8–18

Minnesota Ballet School’s Youth Ballet Program offers comprehensive classical ballet training for students ages 8–18, based on the world-renowned Vaganova Method.


Designed for dancers from beginner through advanced levels, the program develops strong technique, musicality, artistry, discipline, and confidence through a structured and progressive curriculum.


Students study classical ballet technique, pointe, variations, repertoire, and performance preparation under the guidance of experienced faculty. Through performance opportunities with Minnesota Ballet Theatre, dancers gain valuable stage experience while continuing to develop their technique and artistry.

Our goal is to provide each dancer with a strong technical foundation, artistic development, and individualized guidance to help them reach their full potential.

Ballet 1 | Ages 8–12

Ballet 3 | Ages 10–12 (two years of Ballet required)

Ballet 1 | Ages 8–12

Ballet 1 introduces students to structured classical ballet training and the fundamentals of barre and center work. Students develop proper posture, alignment, coordination, musicality, flexibility, and body awareness while building a strong technical foundation.


In This Class, Students Will:


  • Learn fundamental ballet positions and terminology 
  • Develop proper posture, alignment, and body awareness 
  • Improve balance, coordination, strength, and flexibility 
  • Practice beginning barre and center exercises 
  • Develop musicality, rhythm, and quality of movement 
  • Build focus, confidence, discipline, and classroom skills 


The goal of Ballet 1 is to establish the essential technical foundations needed for continued classical ballet training.

Class Length: 1 hour, once a week

Ballet 2 I Ages 8–10

Ballet 3 | Ages 10–12 (two years of Ballet required)

Ballet 1 | Ages 8–12

Ballet 2 builds upon the foundations developed in Ballet 1 and introduces students to more structured classical ballet training. Students continue developing technique, placement, coordination, strength, flexibility, musicality, and control while expanding their ballet vocabulary.


In This Class, Students Will:

  • Develop stronger barre and center technique 
  • Improve placement, alignment, balance, and coordination 
  • Expand classical ballet vocabulary and terminology 
  • Build strength, flexibility, endurance, and control 
  • Develop musicality and quality of movement 
  • Begin pre-pointe preparation with emphasis on strength and proper alignment 


The goal of Ballet 2 is to strengthen technical foundations and prepare dancers for more advanced classical ballet training.Class Schedule

Ballet 3 continues the development of classical ballet technique with increased focus on strength, control, coordination, musicality, and artistry. Students work with more complex ballet vocabulary and combinations while developing greater technical precision and performance quality.


In This Class, Students Will:

  • Refine barre and center technique 
  • Develop greater strength, balance, coordination, and flexibility 
  • Improve musicality, control, and quality of movement 
  • Learn increasingly complex ballet combinations 
  • Continue developing pointe technique and preparation 
  • Build confidence, artistry, and performance skills 


The goal of Ballet 3 is to develop stronger classical technique and prepare dancers for the increased technical and artistic demands of the advanced levels.


Placement: Approximately 2 years of prior ballet training recommended. Final placement is based on instructor assessment and readiness.


Class Schedule:
Class Length: 2 hours, three times a week
Tuesday: 4:30–6:30 PM (includes Courtesy Class)
Thursday: 4:30–6:30 PM (includes Pointe)
Saturday: 11:00 AM–1:00 PM (includes Pointe)

Ballet 4 | Ages 12–14 (two years of Ballet & 1 year of Pointe required)

Ballet 4 develops more advanced classical ballet technique with increased emphasis on placement, strength, coordination, control, and musicality. Students refine their technique through more challenging barre and center work while continuing to develop pointe technique, artistry, and performance quality.


In This Class, Students Will:

  • Refine classical ballet placement and alignment 
  • Develop greater strength, balance, coordination, and control 
  • Practice more advanced barre and center combinations 
  • Improve turns, jumps, and traveling movements 
  • Continue developing pointe technique with focus on strength, placement, and control 
  • Develop musicality, artistry, and performance quality 


The goal of Ballet 4 is to strengthen technical proficiency, pointe technique, and artistry while preparing dancers for advanced classical ballet training.


Placement: Previous ballet training and pointe experience required. Placement is based on faculty assessment and readiness.


Class Schedule:

Class Length: 2 hours, four times a week

Monday: 4:30–6:30 PM (includes Pointe)
Wednesday: 4:30–6:30 PM (includes Strength & Stretch)
Thursday: 4:30–6:30 PM (includes Pointe)
Saturday: 11:00 AM–1:00 PM (includes Pointe)

Ballet 5-6 | Ages 14–18 (four years of Ballet & three years of Pointe required)

Ballet 5–6 is designed for advanced dancers ready for intensive classical ballet training. Students refine advanced technique, pointe work, musicality, artistry, and performance quality while developing the strength, control, precision, and confidence required at the highest levels of training.


In This Class, Students Will:

  • Refine advanced barre and center technique 
  • Develop strength, control, balance, and technical precision 
  • Practice advanced turns, jumps, and traveling combinations 
  • Advance pointe technique with focus on strength, control, and artistry 
  • Develop musicality, expression, and performance quality 
  • Prepare for advanced repertoire and performance opportunities 


The goal of Ballet 5–6 is to develop technically strong, confident, and expressive dancers prepared for advanced training, repertoire, and performance opportunities.


Placement: Advanced ballet and pointe training required. Placement is based on faculty assessment and readiness.


Class Schedule:

Class Length: 2 hours, four times a week

Monday: 4:30–6:30 PM (includes Pointe)
Wednesday: 4:30–6:30 PM (includes Strength & Stretch)
Thursday: 4:30–6:30 PM (includes Pointe)

READY FOR MORE INTENSIVE TRAINING?


For dedicated dancers seeking a more intensive training experience, our Pre-Professional Day Program offers expanded daytime training in classical ballet, pointe, repertoire, conditioning, and performance preparation.


Designed for dancers ages 14–18, the program provides a focused pathway for students pursuing advanced training, college dance programs, and professional opportunities.

BOYS BALLET PROGRAM

Minnesota Ballet School’s Boys Ballet Program provides classical ballet training in a supportive and encouraging environment. Ballet helps young dancers develop strength, coordination, discipline, confidence, musicality, teamwork, and artistic expression while building a strong technical foundation.


Boys train in age- and level-appropriate Pre-Ballet and Youth Ballet classes and progress according to experience, technical readiness, and individual development. As they advance, dancers have opportunities to participate in performances, productions, and competitions, and continue toward advanced and pre-professional training.


Special tuition opportunities and scholarships are available to encourage boys who are interested in classical ballet.

BOYS TUITION & SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

We are committed to encouraging boys to experience classical ballet and supporting those who demonstrate a strong interest and commitment to their training.


Pre-Ballet 1, Pre-Ballet 2, Pre-Ballet Advanced & Ballet 1

Boys receive 50% off regular tuition.

Boys enrolled in the same class as a sibling may attend tuition-free at these introductory levels.


Ballet 2 & Higher | Ages 8+

Boys receive 50% off regular tuition. Full tuition scholarships are available for dedicated dancers who demonstrate a strong commitment to their ballet training.


Full Scholarship Requirements:

  • Consistent attendance 
  • Participation in the complete weekly training schedule for their level 
  • Commitment, focus, and a positive approach to training 
  • Participation in required school performances and productions 
  • Satisfactory progress and classroom participation 


Full Scholarship eligibility is reviewed throughout the school year and may be adjusted if attendance, training, or participation requirements are not maintained.

SUPPLEMENTAL TRAINING | YOUTH AGES 8+

Our Supplemental Training classes are designed to complement classical ballet training and give dancers additional opportunities to develop strength, flexibility, musicality, artistry, versatility, and performance skills.


These classes may be taken alongside our Classical Ballet Program, and selected classes are also open to students who would like to explore additional styles and training opportunities.


Students receive a 10% discount when enrolling in multiple weekly classes.


Enrollment available throughout the school year, subject to class availability.

Strength and Stretch | Youth Ages 8+

Strength & Stretch is designed to complement classical ballet training by helping dancers develop strength, flexibility, balance, body awareness, and control. Through focused conditioning and stretching exercises, students improve alignment, core stability, range of motion, and the physical foundation needed for safe and effective ballet

Contemporary Ballet expands upon classical ballet training by introducing dancers to greater freedom of movement, creativity, musical expression, and individual artistry. Combining elements of ballet and contemporary dance, students explore different movement qualities while developing coordination, strength, flexibility, body awareness,

The goal of Contemporary Ballet is to help dancers become more versatile, expressive, and confident performers while complementing their classical ballet training.

Ballet Spin & Jump | Youth Ages 8+

Ballet Spin & Jump | Youth Ages 8+

Ballet Spin & Jump is designed to strengthen turns, pirouettes, jumps, and allegro technique while developing balance, coordination, power, and control. Based on the Vaganova Method, this focused class helps dancers refine the technical skills needed for more dynamic, precise, and confident classical ballet movement.

The goal of Ballet Spin & Jump is to help dancers develop stronger, more confident turns and jumps while improving the technical precision and dynamic quality of their classical ballet performance.
